The presentation’s title, Abr Bandi, is the term used in Central Asia for ikat, an ancient resist-dyeing technique used to pattern textiles. Derived from the Persian words abr (cloud) and band (to tie), it reflects the technique’s distinctive blurred aesthetic—a result of the labor-intensive process of hand-dyeing and weaving yarns. Four of Beglari’s designs are ikat, honoring the master weavers who have preserved this craft for centuries. The remaining three, made with wool or velvet, feature intricate embroideries of birds—a nod towards the Simurgh.
At a time when AI-driven production and fast fashion contribute to environmental waste, Abr Bandi embraces sustainability. Leftover fabric is repurposed into new designs, and production remains intentionally limited—each garment is made only when one is sold, ensuring minimal waste. Through this collection, Beglari invites viewers to appreciate the artistry, labor, and ethical philosophy behind every thread of handmade textiles.
