Nima Nabavi | CHRONOCHROMA | Alserkal Avenue

EXHIBITIONS

Nima Nabavi’s digital animation, CHRONOCHROMA, is on view at Alserkal Avenue, Dubai, UAE.

A portmanteau of the Greek words for time (chrono) and color (chroma), CHRONOCHROMA invites viewers to experience and meditate on the passage of time through the movement of intricately patterned colors. The installation features two video works, The Future and The Past, each consisting of a central circle that rotates—clockwise and anti-clockwise, respectively—against backgrounds that expand and contract in opposition. The patterns on the two screens are inverses of one another.

Positioned between the screens, the viewer occupies the metaphorical and literal present, suspended between past and future. The animations unfold with excruciating slowness, each completing a full revolution in 60 seconds. In doing so, they do not just represent time—they measure it.

The installation is on view from 18 September through 31 October 2025.
