Abbas Akhavan's solo exhibition, Abbas Akhavan: One Hundred Years, curated by Melanie O’Brian, opens at Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery, Vancouver, Canada.
The exhibition explores the concept of suspended time and how narrative is shaped or stalled within various spatial contexts. Featuring primarily new, site-specific, and ephemeral works—including installations, video, and sculpture—the exhibition transforms the gallery into a hybrid space that shifts between stage, set, gameboard, studio, and institution. Through this, Akhavan examines the tensions between storytelling and stasis, and continues his investigation into spaces—both domestic and institutional—where hospitality and hostility coexist, intersecting with carceral, fantastical, and behavioral-conditioning environments.
The exhibition is on view from 5 September until 7 December 2025.
