Slavs and Tatars | Recipes for Broken Hearts | Bukhara Biennial

EXHIBITIONS

Slavs and Tatars participates in Recipes for Broken Hearts, the inaugural Bukhara Biennial, Bukhara, Uzbekistan, curated by Diana Campbell.

Inspired by a widely known Uzbek legend, Recipes for Broken Hearts takes the form of an expanded feast to explore the healing power of art and culture through communal participation, looking at time as a key ingredient in art, cooking and healing. The biennial transforms the historic city of Bukhara into a living cultural district with over 70 newly commissioned, site-specific works by artists, artisans, chefs, and performers from Uzbekistan and around the world.

Commissioned by Gayane Umerova and presented by the Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation, this debut edition celebrates craft, cuisine, and cultural exchange as contemporary art forms, positioning Bukhara as a vital hub for creativity on the Silk Roads.

The biennial is on view from 5 September until 20 November 2025.
