The Third Line is delighted to announce Vian Sora: Outerworlds, a multi-venue mid-career survey of Iraqi-American artist Vian Sora. Opening on 22 June 2025 at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, this landmark exhibition brings together approximately twenty of Sora’s major works, tracing the evolution of her practice over seven transformative years (2016–2023).
Outerworlds marks Sora’s first solo museum exhibition in the United States. Her visceral, multilayered paintings abstractly channel the turbulence of personal and political histories—drawing from her lived experiences in Iraq, ancient Mesopotamian heritage, and the country’s complex natural landscapes of deserts, rivers, and archaeological sites. Following its debut in Santa Barbara, the exhibition will travel to the Speed Art Museum in October 2025 and Asia Society Texas in April 2026.
